Carla Natalie Barnett is a Belizean economist and politician who currently serves as the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) since 2021. Born on 16 February 1958 in Belize City, Belize, Barnett has held various ministerial positions in her country's government and was a former Deputy Speaker of the Senate. She earned a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of the West Indies (UWI), a Master of Science in economics from the University of Western Ontario in Canada, and a doctorate in social sciences from the UWI Mona Campus in Jamaica. Prior to her current role, Barnett worked as an economist at the Caribbean Development Bank and served as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Belize. She has made significant contributions to the field of economics and has played a vital role in the development of her country and the Caribbean region as a whole.
