Carlo Caracciolo
Carlo Caracciolo (1925-2008) was an Italian publisher and the creator of Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso, a prominent publishing group in Italy. He was known as 'the editor prince' due to his aristocratic background and refined demeanor. Caracciolo was born in Florence to Filippo Caracciolo, 8th Principe di Castagneto, 3rd Duca di Melito, and Margaret Clarke, an American heiress. He had two siblings, Nicola Caracciolo and Marella Agnelli, who was married to Fiat S.p.A. chairman Gianni Agnelli. Growing up in Rome and Turkey, Caracciolo became fluent in Italian, French, and English. In addition to his publishing career, he also served in the Italian Resistance during World War II.
