Carly Smithson (born September 12, 1983) is an Irish soul and pop rock singer. She gained recognition as a contestant on the seventh season of American Idol, where she finished in sixth place. Smithson released her first studio album, 'Ultimate High,' in 2001 under MCA Records. However, she was dropped from the record label in 2002. Following her appearance on American Idol, she joined the rock band We Are the Fallen as their lead singer. Smithson was born in Dublin, Ireland, and later moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, before returning to Dublin at the age of four. In addition to her singing career, Smithson has also acted, appearing in advertisements and playing Young Marianne in 'Fools of Fortune' in 1990.
