Casey Stengel
Casey Stengel (1890-1975) was an American Major League Baseball right fielder and manager. He is best known for managing the championship New York Yankees of the 1950s and later the expansion New York Mets. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Stengel began his professional baseball career in 1910 and played for the Brooklyn Dodgers for six seasons. He achieved success with Brooklyn's 1916 National League championship team but also gained a reputation as a clown. After clashes over pay, Stengel was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1918 but enlisted in the Navy during World War I. Stengel was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966.
