    Charles Dillon 'Casey' Stengel (July 30, 1890 – September 29, 1975) was an American Major League Baseball right fielder and manager. He is best known for managing the championship New York Yankees of the 1950s and later, the expansion New York Mets. Stengel, nicknamed 'the Ol' Perfessor', was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966. He began his professional baseball career in 1910 and played for the Brooklyn Dodgers for six seasons, including their 1916 National League championship team. Stengel also had a stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates before enlisting in the Navy during World War I. After the war, he returned to baseball and transitioned into managing, achieving great success with the Yankees and later the Mets.
