She is also an educationalist engaged in research in the areas of children's performance and creative literacies. Fowler has directed Windmill, which has been nominated for over 28 awards and won 15, including three national Helpmann Awards. She has received several prestigious awards recognizing her contributions to the arts community, such as the Australia Japan Arts Network (AJAN) Fellowship and the Asia-Pacific Woman of Distinction Award (Arts).
