Catherine Davis
Catherine Davis (1924–2002) was an American poet known for her contributions to the field of poetry. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she studied poetry at the University of Chicago under J. V. Cunningham and at Stanford University under Yvor Winters. Davis received her bachelor's degree from George Washington University in 1961 and later joined the University of Iowa's creative writing program, where she met the poet Donald Justice, a lifelong supporter of her work. Her poems were often compared favorably to the works of Dorothy Parker by poet Edgar Bowers. Davis held the prestigious Stegner Fellowship in Creative Writing at Stanford and taught at various universities throughout her career. She published four collections of poetry during her lifetime.
