Charlie Townsend

Charlie Townsend, born Charles Lucas Townsend on 7 November 1876, was a Gloucestershire cricketer known for his all-round skills. As a left-handed batsman, Townsend had a stylish technique and was particularly effective with off-side strokes. He was also a spin bowler, relying on a big break from leg. Townsend made his debut at the age of 16 in 1893 and impressed with his ability to spin the ball prodigiously. Despite his slender build, he was able to bowl a large number of overs. Townsend's performances were often exceptional on difficult wickets but less effective on good ones. He passed away on 17 October 1958.
