Sir Christopher Hampton is a British playwright, screenwriter, translator, and film director. Born on January 26, 1946, in Faial, Azores, Hampton is best known for his play Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which he adapted into a successful film. He has been nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, winning for Dangerous Liaisons in 1988 and The Father in 2020. Hampton has also made significant contributions to the theatre, including works such as The Philanthropist and translations of plays like The Seagull and The Father. In addition, he wrote the books and lyrics for the musical Sunset Boulevard, for which he received two Tony Awards.
