Carlton Douglas Ridenhour, born on August 1, 1960, better known as Chuck D, is an American rapper and actor. He gained fame as the leader and frontman of the influential hip hop group Public Enemy, which he co-founded in 1985 with Flavor Flav. Chuck D is also a member of the rock supergroup Prophets of Rage. Known for his politically and socially conscious lyrics, he helped shape the landscape of hip hop in the mid-1980s. Apart from his work with Public Enemy, Chuck D has released several solo albums, including the acclaimed 'Autobiography of Mistachuck' in 1996. He has been recognized with numerous Grammy nominations, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award as part of Public Enemy, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
