Danell Leyva
Danell Johan Leyva is a Cuban-American former gymnast who competed for the United States. Born on October 30, 1991, Leyva is known for his achievements in the Olympic Games. He won the bronze medal in the individual all-around event in 2012, as well as silver medals in the parallel bars and horizontal bar events in 2016. Leyva also excelled in national and world competitions, winning the US national all-around gold medal in 2011 and the world championship on the parallel bars in the same year. With a total of 8 Olympic and World Championships medals, he is considered one of the most decorated American male gymnasts. Leyva specialized in parallel bars and horizontal bar, even creating his own signature move on the latter. Apart from his gymnastics career, Leyva has a sister named Dayanis Mesa, who is a television host. His stepfather and coach, Yin Alvarez, and his mother, Maria Gonzalez, were both members of Cuba's national gymnastics team. Leyva and his family defected to Miami when he was two years old.
