Daniel Davis (born November 26, 1945) is an American film, stage, and television actor. He is best known for his portrayal of Niles the butler on the sitcom The Nanny from 1993 to 1999. Davis also gained recognition for his two guest appearances as Professor Moriarty on Star Trek: The Next Generation, a role he reprised on Star Trek: Picard. He is known for his ability to convincingly portray upper-class English characters in both roles. Additionally, Davis has lent his voice to the intelligent Cro-Magnon character Longhair in Cartoon Network's Big Pick. Born in Gurdon, Arkansas, Davis began his acting career at the age of 11 and has since worked with various theater companies including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, and the American Conservatory Theater.
