Daniel Quinn (October 11, 1935 – February 17, 2018) was an American author, cultural critic, and publisher. He is best known for his novel Ishmael, which won the Turner Tomorrow Fellowship Award in 1991. Quinn's ideas are associated with environmentalism, though he criticized the term for creating a false dichotomy between the environment and human life. He referred to his philosophy as 'new tribalism.' Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Quinn graduated from Creighton Preparatory School and studied at Saint Louis University, the University of Vienna, and Loyola University. He received a bachelor's degree in English cum laude in 1957. Quinn's work has made a lasting impact on literature and cultural discourse.
