Dave Davies, born David Russell Gordon Davies on February 3, 1947, is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the rock band the Kinks, alongside his elder brother Ray. Davies also took on writing and lead vocal duties for some of the band's songs, such as 'Death of a Clown', 'Party Line', 'Strangers', and 'Rats'. In addition to his work with the Kinks, Davies has a successful solo career, having released several singles in the late 1960s and eight solo albums. He is recognized for his innovative use of electric guitar distortion, which greatly influenced heavy metal and punk rock. Davies was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and was ranked 91st in Rolling Stone Magazine's '100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time'.
