Dave Pope Biography
Dave Pope (June 17, 1921 – August 28, 1999) was an American baseball player who played as an outfielder for the Homestead Grays and the Cleveland Indians in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played one inning for the Homestead Grays and four seasons in MLB from 1952 to 1955. Pope also played for the Baltimore Orioles in 1955-1956 and returned to the Cleveland Indians for the remainder of the 1956 season. Pope served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 before joining the Homestead Grays. He had one inning in right field but did not have a turn at bat. Pope had an older brother, Willie Pope, who was also a notable Negro league baseball player.
