David M. Axelrod (born February 22, 1955) is an American political consultant, analyst, and former White House official. He gained prominence as the chief strategist for Barack Obama's presidential campaigns and later served as Senior Advisor to the President. Axelrod also played a crucial role in Obama's successful re-election campaign in 2012. Apart from his political work, he has written for the Chicago Tribune and served as Senior Political Commentator for CNN. Axelrod has also directed the non-partisan University of Chicago Institute of Politics. Born and raised in New York City, he had his bar mitzvah ceremony at the Brotherhood Synagogue. Axelrod's memoir, titled Believer: My Forty Years in Politics, chronicles his extensive career in the political arena.
