David Blackwood
David Lloyd Blackwood (November 7, 1941 – July 2, 2022) was a Canadian artist known for his intaglio prints, paintings, drawings, and woodcuts. Born in Wesleyville, Newfoundland, on November 7, 1941, Blackwood's artwork often depicted dramatic historical scenes of Newfoundland outport life and industry, including shipwrecks, seal hunting, iceberg encounters, and resettlement. He opened his first art studio in 1956 and studied at the Ontario College of Art on a scholarship. After graduating in 1963, he became Art Master at Trinity College School in Port Hope. Blackwood's artwork was exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada when he was only 23 years old. He worked on the series The Lost Party, consisting of fifty etchings, throughout the 1960s and early 1970s.
