David Brinkley
David McClure Brinkley (July 10, 1920 – June 11, 2003) was an American newscaster known for his extensive career in broadcasting. He worked for NBC and ABC from 1943 to 1997. Brinkley gained recognition as the co-anchor of NBC's highly-rated nightly news program, The Huntley–Brinkley Report, which aired from 1956 to 1970. He continued to appear as a co-anchor or commentator on its successor, NBC Nightly News, throughout the 1970s. In the 1980s and 1990s, he hosted the popular Sunday program This Week with David Brinkley and served as a prominent commentator during ABC News' election-night coverage. Brinkley was the recipient of ten Emmy Awards, three George Foster Peabody Awards, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Additionally, he authored three books, including the bestselling Washington Goes to War, which explored the impact of World War II on the nation's capital. Brinkley was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and had a career that spanned over five decades.
