David Charles Jones (July 9, 1921 – August 10, 2013) was a United States Air Force general and the ninth chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He also served as the ninth Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force and fifteenth commander of the United States Air Forces in Europe. Jones played a significant role in establishing the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as the primary military advisor to the President. He emphasized the importance of military reform, contributing to the passage of the Goldwater-Nichols Act. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and raised in Minot, North Dakota, Jones attended the University of North Dakota and Minot State Teacher's College.
