David Cale Biography
David Cale (born David Egleton) is an English-American playwright, actor, and songwriter. He is best known for his solo performance works. Cale was born in England in 1958 or 1959 and grew up in Luton, Bedfordshire. After failing out of secondary school, he attempted a career as a rock singer in London before moving to New York City in 1979. Cale's early writing started as song lyrics, which later developed into monologues that he performed at poetry readings. In 1986, he made his solo stage debut with The Redthroats, a semi-autobiographical play that won a Bessie Award and was featured in an HBO special.
