David Cronenberg is a Canadian film director, screenwriter, and actor. Born on March 15, 1943, he is known for his exploration of the body horror genre, focusing on themes of bodily transformation, infectious diseases, and the merging of psychology, physicality, and technology. Cronenberg's notable works include Shivers (1975), Scanners (1981), Videodrome (1983), and The Fly (1986). Alongside sci-fi horror, he has also directed dramas, psychological thrillers, and gangster films. Although his films have polarized critics and audiences, they have earned him critical acclaim and sparked controversy for their depictions of gore and violence. Cronenberg's work has received numerous awards, including the Special Jury Prize for Crash at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival.
