    David Jon Gilmour (born 6 March 1946) is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter, best known as a member of the rock band Pink Floyd. He joined the band in 1967 as the guitarist and co-lead vocalist, just before the departure of founding member Syd Barrett. With Pink Floyd, Gilmour contributed to the success of iconic concept albums like The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), and The Wall (1979), among others. Pink Floyd sold more than 250 million records worldwide, including 75 million in the United States. Gilmour has also released four successful solo studio albums and has produced artists such as the Dream Academy.
