David Keith Lynch (born January 20, 1946) is an American filmmaker, visual artist, musician, and actor. Known for his surrealist qualities, Lynch has received critical acclaim for his films. He has been the recipient of prestigious awards, including the Golden Lion in 2006 and an Honorary Academy Award in 2019. Lynch's career began with making short films in the late 1960s, and his first feature-length film was Eraserhead (1977). He has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director three times for The Elephant Man (1980), Blue Velvet (1986), and Mulholland Drive (2001). Lynch's notable films include Dune (1984), Lost Highway (1997), and Inland Empire (2006). Alongside Mark Frost, Lynch also co-created the ABC series Twin Peaks (1990-1991).
