David Sargent Biography
David J. Sargent (born 1931) is a former President of Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. He held the position from 1989 to 2010. Sargent hails from Newport, New Hampshire and graduated magna cum laude from Suffolk University Law School in 1954, where he ranked first in his class. That same year, he was admitted to the bar in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Sargent returned to Suffolk University as an adjunct professor in 1956 and eventually became a full professor. From 1972 to 1989, he served as the dean of the Law School. The Sargent building, which houses Suffolk University Law School, is named after him. In 2008, The Chronicle of Higher Education listed Sargent as the highest paid college or university president in the United States.
