David Scheffer Biography
David John Scheffer is an American lawyer and diplomat. He served as the first United States Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues during President Bill Clinton's second term. Born on September 18, 1953, Scheffer is currently the Mayer Brown/Robert A. Helman Professor of Law at Northwestern University School of Law. He obtained his B.A.s from Harvard and Oxford University, and an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center. Scheffer began his legal career at the international law firm Coudert Brothers and also served as counsel to the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He has made significant contributions to international human rights through his work in the field of war crimes.
