Derrick Demetrius Coleman (born June 21, 1967) is a retired American professional basketball player. He attended Syracuse University and was selected first overall in the 1990 NBA draft by the New Jersey Nets. Known for his effectiveness in the low post, Coleman averaged 16.5 points and 9.3 rebounds throughout his career. His best years came as a member of the New Jersey Nets, where he averaged 19.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, Coleman's career was plagued by injuries, preventing him from reaching his full potential. After retiring from basketball, he ventured into the business world, working as a developer and entrepreneur in Detroit. Coleman has made occasional appearances as a studio analyst for sports-related programs.
