Don Ackerman Biography
Don Ackerman, also known as Douglas, was an American professional basketball player. Born on September 4, 1930, he played college basketball for the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds during the 1950–51 season. Ackerman went on to play for the Manchester British-Americans of the American Basketball League in 1952–53. He was selected by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 1953 NBA draft and played 28 games for them in the 1953–54 season. Although he was traded to the Boston Celtics, Ackerman decided to end his playing career and started a successful landscaping business that he ran for over 40 years. He was married with seven children and resided in Oceanside, New York until his passing on July 9, 2011.
