Don Young Biography
Donald Edwin Young (June 9, 1933 – March 18, 2022) was an American politician from Alaska. He served as the U.S. representative for AK's at-large congressional district for 49 years, making him the longest-serving Republican in congressional history. Young was born and raised in California before moving to Alaska in 1959. He held various jobs, including sailing and teaching, in Fort Yukon, where he was elected mayor in 1964. Young entered state politics in 1966, serving in the Alaska House of Representatives and later in the Alaska Senate. In 1973, he won a special election to fill a vacant seat in the House of Representatives and was consistently reelected throughout his career.
