Doris McCarthy
Doris McCarthy (July 7, 1910 – November 25, 2010) was a Canadian artist known for her abstracted landscapes. Born in Calgary, Alberta, McCarthy attended the Ontario College of Art from 1926 to 1930. She taught at Central Technical School in downtown Toronto from 1933 until her retirement in 1972. McCarthy lived and worked in Scarborough, Ontario, but traveled extensively and painted landscapes in countries such as Costa Rica, Spain, Italy, Japan, India, England, and Ireland. She was recognized for her Canadian landscapes and depictions of Arctic icebergs. In 1989, McCarthy earned a B.A. in English from the University of Toronto Scarborough.
