Douglas Edwards (July 14, 1917 – October 13, 1990) was an American radio and television newscaster and correspondent. He worked for the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) for over four decades, starting in the 1940s. Edwards was one of the first major broadcast journalists to transition from radio to television. He is credited as the first presenter or 'anchor' of a nationally televised, regularly scheduled newscast by an American network. From March 20, 1947, to April 16, 1962, Edwards presented news on CBS television every weeknight for 15 years. Initially known as CBS Television News, the program later became the CBS Evening News. Edwards continued working for CBS for another 25 years, providing news reports on both radio and television.
