    Douglas Sutherland Biography
    Douglas Sutherland (18 November 1919 – 28 August 1995) was a British author and journalist, best known for his biographies and the humorous English Gentleman books. Born in Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria, England, Sutherland moved to the remote island of Stronsay in Orkney with his family at a young age. He later relocated to Aberdeenshire and attended Trinity College, Glenalmond. During the Second World War, Sutherland served in the army and was commissioned into the King's (Liverpool) Regiment. He received the Military Cross and was mentioned in Despatches twice for his active service. After the war, Sutherland joined Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery's 21st Army Group Headquarters in Bad Oeynhausen.
