Dwight David Eisenhower, also known as Ike, was an American military officer and statesman. Born on October 14, 1890, in Denison, Texas, he was raised in Abilene, Kansas. Eisenhower served as the 34th president of the United States from 1953 to 1961. Prior to his presidency, he achieved the five-star rank as General of the Army and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe during World War II. Eisenhower planned and supervised significant military campaigns such as Operation Torch in the North Africa campaign and the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He graduated from West Point in 1915 and married Mamie Doud, with whom he had two sons.
