Edward William Welch, known as Ed Welch, is an English songwriter, composer, conductor, and arranger. Born on October 22, 1947, Welch had a classical music upbringing and attended Christ Church Cathedral School and Ardingly College. He later studied composition at Trinity College of Music London. After graduating, he joined United Artists Music where he gained experience in various branches of the music industry, including writing arrangements and composing B-sides. In 1971, Welch released his album 'Clowns' featuring songs he co-wrote with Tom Paxton. He also acted as a producer for Sylvie McNeill's version of 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' released in 1972.
