James Edward "Eddie" Liu (25 May 1922 – 25 June 2013) was an Australian community leader known for his work with the Chinese Australian community in Brisbane, Queensland. He co-founded the Chinese Club of Queensland in 1952 and played a crucial role in establishing Brisbane's Chinatown in the 1980s. Liu was born in Hong Kong in 1922 and grew up in Kowloon. He moved to Australia in 1937 and completed his secondary education at Christian Brothers College in Melbourne. During World War II, Liu supervised and translated for Chinese seamen who were building landing barges. He became the secretary of the Chinese Seamen's Union of Australia. Liu was a prominent figure in Brisbane's multicultural community, helping to settle migrants from various countries.
