Edward Wong (born November 14, 1972) is an American journalist and diplomatic correspondent for The New York Times. He was born in Washington, D.C. on November 14, 1972 and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. Wong holds a bachelor of arts degree summa cum laude in English literature from the University of Virginia (1994), as well as dual master's degrees in journalism and international and area studies from the University of California, Berkeley (1999). He has also studied Mandarin Chinese at Beijing Language and Culture University, Taiwan University, and Middlebury College. Wong joined The New York Times in October 1999 and has covered a range of topics including the Iraq War and served as the Beijing bureau chief from 2008 to 2016.
