Edwin Walker
Edwin Anderson Walker (November 10, 1909 – October 31, 1993) was a United States Army major general who served in World War II and the Korean War. He gained notoriety for his conservative political views and was criticized by President Dwight D. Eisenhower for promoting personal political opinions while in uniform. Walker twice resigned his commission, first in 1959 and again in 1961 after being admonished by the Joint Chiefs of Staff for his comments about Eleanor Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman. He is the only US general to resign during the 20th century. After leaving the military, Walker campaigned for the governorship of Texas in 1962, but was unsuccessful.
