Elaine Stritch (February 2, 1925 – July 17, 2014) was an American actress known for her work on Broadway and television. She made her professional stage debut in 1944 and had a successful career appearing in numerous stage plays, musicals, feature films, and television series. Stritch received four Tony Award nominations throughout her career for her performances in Bus Stop (1956), Sail Away (1962), Company (1970), and A Delicate Balance (1996). She also won the Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event for her one-woman show Elaine Stritch at Liberty in 2002. Stritch's talent extended to the West End in London, where she starred in productions such as Small Craft Warnings (1973) and The Gingerbread Lady (1974). In recognition of her contributions, she was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1995.
