Eliot Laurence Spitzer is an American politician and attorney. Born on June 10, 1959, in New York City, Spitzer attended Princeton University and later obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Harvard. He started his career as an attorney in private practice in New York and then served as a prosecutor in the office of the New York County District Attorney. From 1999 to 2006, Spitzer held the position of Attorney General of New York, gaining recognition as the 'Sheriff of Wall Street' for his efforts to combat corruption in the financial services industry. In 2006, he was elected as the 54th Governor of New York, but his tenure was short-lived due to his involvement with a prostitution ring. Spitzer resigned from office and was succeeded by his lieutenant governor, David Paterson.
