Elizabeth Meriwether is an American writer, producer, and television showrunner. She was born on October 11, 1981, in Miami, Florida, and grew up in Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Meriwether's father, Heath J. Meriwether, was the publisher of the newspaper Detroit Free Press, while her mother, Patricia Hughes Meriweather, was a painter. Initially aspiring to be an actress, Meriwether discovered her passion for playwrighting when she wrote her first play. She is well-known for creating the Fox sitcom New Girl and writing the play Oliver Parker! (2010) and the film No Strings Attached (2011). Meriwether has also created the ABC sitcoms Single Parents and Bless This Mess, as well as the Hulu drama The Dropout. She graduated from Yale University in 2004, double-majoring in English and theater.
