Elizabeth Nyamayaro (born August 15, 1975) is a political scientist and former senior advisor to Under-Secretary-General and executive director for UN Women. She is also the head of HeForShe, a movement founded by UN Women to promote gender equality. Nyamayaro, born to a Zambian mother, was raised in a village in Zimbabwe affected by HIV and famine. Growing up, she faced challenges of poverty and hunger, but was inspired by the support she received from UNICEF during a famine. This experience motivated her to work for the United Nations and help others. Nyamayaro is dedicated to empowering all individuals, particularly men and boys, to take action for gender equality.
