Emily Hahn Biography
Emily Hahn (January 14, 1905 – February 18, 1997) was an American journalist and writer. Known as an early feminist, she authored 54 books and wrote over 200 articles and short stories. Hahn's novels in the 20th century played a significant role in introducing Asia and Africa to the western world. She was the first woman to earn a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Hahn embarked on extensive travels, exploring the Belgian Congo and hiking across Central Africa in the 1930s. She also spent three years in Shanghai teaching English and engaging with influential figures such as The Soong Sisters and Chinese poet Shao Xunmei (Sinmay Zau).
