Eric Burns (born August 29, 1945) is an American author, playwright, media critic, and former broadcast journalist. He began his television career at WQED, the PBS station in Pittsburgh, hosting a cultural affairs program. Burns developed a close friendship with Fred Rogers, the host of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and considered him a mentor. Throughout his career, he worked as an anchor, news director, reporter, and anchorman in various cities including Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Minneapolis. Burns is a graduate of Ambridge Area High School and Westminster College in Pennsylvania. He has written several books and continues to contribute to the field of media criticism.
