Frank Bowman
Frank Lee Bowman (born December 19, 1944) is a retired four-star Admiral who served as the Chief of Naval Personnel and the Director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion. He was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2009 for his leadership in the design of nuclear-reactor propulsion plants. Bowman graduated from Duke University in 1966 and later obtained a Master's Degree in nuclear engineering and naval architecture/marine engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1977. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from Duke University in 2003. Before his command tours, Bowman served on various submarines and as the executive officer of USS Bremerton (SSN-698).
