Fred McCarren Biography
Fred McCarren (1951-2006) was an American television and film actor. Born on April 12, 1951, in Butler, Pennsylvania, McCarren gained recognition for his roles on the television series Amanda's (1983) and Hill Street Blues (1984). After attending the University of Cincinnati and Point Park College, he trained at Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in Florida. McCarren began his career in New York City, working in TV commercials before transitioning to film and television in the late 1970s. He starred in the short-lived sitcom Amanda's opposite Bea Arthur and made guest appearances on shows like Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Remington Steele, and The Golden Girls.
