Gary Carter
Gary Edmund Carter (April 8, 1954 – February 16, 2012) was an American professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 19 years, primarily with the Montreal Expos and New York Mets. Known as 'the Kid' for his youthful exuberance, Carter was a 11-time All-Star and a member of the 1986 World Series Champion Mets. He was highly regarded for his hitting, excellent defense, ability to handle pitchers, and on-field leadership. Carter made clutch contributions to the Mets' championship, including a game-winning single in the NLCS and a key hit in the World Series. He was named captain of the Mets and had his number retired by the Expos. After retiring, Carter coached baseball at the college and minor-league levels.
