Gary Hetherington Biography
Gary Hetherington (born 1954) is an English professional rugby league executive, former professional rugby league footballer, and coach. He is currently the chief executive officer of the Leeds Rhinos in the Super League. Hetherington began his rugby career in 1973 with Wakefield Trinity and went on to play for various teams including York, Leeds, Hunslet (loan), Kent Invicta, Huddersfield, Sheffield Eagles, and Whitehaven. In 1982, he founded the Sheffield Eagles and served as the club's general manager, coach, and player. Hetherington joined Leeds in 1996 and rebranded the club as Leeds Rhinos in 1997. Under his leadership, Leeds has achieved significant success, winning eight Super League Grand Finals, three Challenge Cups, and three World Club Challenges. Hetherington was also President of the Rugby Football League in 2004.
