Gary Numan

Gary Anthony James Webb, professionally known as Gary Numan, is an English musician. He gained recognition as the frontman of the new wave band Tubeway Army. In 1979, he released his debut solo album The Pleasure Principle, which topped the UK Albums Chart. Numan achieved commercial success in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits like 'Are 'Friends' Electric?' and 'Cars,' both reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart. Despite initial criticism, Numan is now regarded as a pioneer of electronic music. He is known for his signature sound involving synthesiser hooks and guitar effects pedals, as well as his distinctive voice and androgynous android persona. Numan has sold over 10 million records and received an Ivor Novello Award in 2017.
