Terence Michael Joseph Butler, better known as Geezer Butler, is an English retired musician and songwriter. Born on July 17, 1949, he is most famous for his role as the bassist and primary lyricist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Throughout his career, Butler has also collaborated with other bands and artists, including Heaven & Hell, GZR, Ozzy Osbourne, and Deadland Ritual. Butler earned his nickname 'Geezer' during his school days, inspired by the Cockney slang used by his brother who was in the army. Raised in a working-class Irish Catholic family, Butler's contributions to the music industry have solidified his place as a prominent figure in the heavy metal genre.
