Gene Saks Biography
Gene Saks (born Jean Michael Saks; November 8, 1921 – March 28, 2015) was an American director and actor. He began his acting career in 1949 on Broadway and later became a highly acclaimed director, receiving seven Tony Award nominations and winning three. Some of his notable directorial works include I Love My Wife, Brighton Beach Memoirs, and Biloxi Blues. Saks also directed several films throughout his career. He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame. Saks was married to Bea Arthur from 1950 to 1978 and later to Keren Saks. He was born in New York City and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
