George Hosmer Biography
George Hosmer (30 August 1781 - 6 March 1861) was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Farmington, Connecticut, he received a classical education and studied law. After practicing in Canandaigua, New York, he moved to Avon, New York. During the War of 1812, he served on the western frontier. In 1820, Hosmer was elected district attorney of Livingston County. He later became a member of the New York State Legislature from 1823 to 1825. Known for his expertise in law, he declined renomination and returned to his legal practice. George Hosmer passed away in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 79.
